IRIS VAN HERPEN PRESENTS AERIAL SCULPTURES AT PARIS HAUTE COUTURE WEEK

During Paris Haute Couture Week, Iris van Herpen unveiled a vision that transcends the traditional confines of fashion. Known for her gravity-defying silhouettes and refined taste,

the couturier introduced her first aerial sculptures, creating a living exhibition that dissolved boundaries between couture, sculpture, and performance.

The show featured four large-scale works suspended on tulle stretched over steel, evoking weightless canvases. Tulle holds ink-like swirls and scorched textures that appear to drift through the air, giving the impression of movement caught in stillness. The result is both delicate and commanding, transforming the space into a living canvas.

Performers became extensions of these forms, their presence heightening the atmosphere. Rather than a runway in the conventional sense, the presentation unfolded as an exhibition. Van Herpen encouraged the audience to move at their own rhythm, to engage with the work as they might in a gallery. The intention was to create space for observation, to allow the intricacy and patience of couture to be absorbed with equal care.

Van Herpen’s work invites fashion to be experienced as sculpture and performance, with pieces that span between structure and fluidity .The presentation affirmed van Herpen’s place as a creator, reshaping couture into an art form that transcends beyond the runway.
