'MATTERS' EXHIBITION AT VILLA ALBA KEW MUSEUM  |  MELBOURNE DESIGN WEEK 2024

The MATTERS exhibition, hosted at the historic Villa Alba Museum during Melbourne Design Week 2024, exemplified the integration of modern design with 19th-century architecture, celebrating creative expressions within the confines of a classical setting.

The exhibition transformed the ornate rooms of Villa Alba, allowing each space to narrate a story of design evolution through meticulously selected pieces. Designers and artists, including Freeman Gallery, Tom Fereday, Adam Goodrum, Jon Goulder, Marlo Lyda, Innate Collection, Object Density, Kate Benazi, Studio Tops, Dean Norton, Jordan Fleming, Design by Them with Elliat Rich, Ben Mccarthey, and Zella Casey Brown, utilized the unique backdrop of Villa Alba’s frescoed walls and traditional detailing to contrast and highlight contemporary design philosophies and innovations.

Prominent pieces such as the KASA 2P Sofa by Vincent Mazenauer and the Cloud Table by Veermakers featured in the exhibition exemplified the Freeman Gallery’s ethos of combining aesthetic elegance with functional design. These items, along with designs from notable creators like Juliana Vasconcellos and Maison Intègre, underscored a dedication to excellence in contemporary craftsmanship.
